Tyler's Room Update: Potterybarn Kids Snafu

We decided to get to work on Tyler's room makeover this weekend. I wanted to dismantle the convertible crib and attach the back (headboard portion) to the full size bed frame that came with the mattress set.  Thinking this would take about 20 minutes we figured, "no problem" and got to work.
Wrong!
The standard frame did not match up to the holes in the headboard.  They were off by about 2 inches.  We called and spoke to the store where we purchased the mattress set and frame and worked with them to figure out the issue: Potterybarn headboard.  Apparently this is a very common issue.

Ugh...Potterybarn Kids!

It seems they purposely make their beds a little wider than the standard so that you have to purchase either their frame or a headboard adapter kit. Had I known this would be an issue I would have just purchased the conversion kit when I got the crib. But no, PBK states that it will work "with most standard bed frames".  I am here to tell you it doesn't.

Here is the adapter kit we purchased:

Instead I placed my order Sunday afternoon and am patiently waiting for it to come in.  In the mean time Tyler's room looks like this:

Yeah, kind of a safety hazard for a two year old so in the mean time he is sleeping with us and we all know what that means:

Please, Potterybarn Kids, send that darn conversion kit fast!!

I'm not trying to knock Potterybarn Kids(well maybe a little out of frustration).  I still love their products.  They are great quality and I love their style.  Just make sure you buy the conversion kit when you purchase either a headboard or convertible crib from them and that goes for Potterybarn, too.

Laundry Room Art Project

I think the laundry room needs a little artwork but it's not in the budget, especially since I haven't picked out a counter top yet.  I got the Ribba 3-picture frame from Ikea for $9.99.  I gathered all my paint samples I purchased for the laundry room and two more I picked up on clearance from Home Depot for 50 cents each.  I had been saving some bottle caps and bottles for this project as you can see in the picture I used a scope bottle, baby bottle wash, keurig k-cup, milk container top, laundry detergent top, and top to lemonade bottle.  The frame measures 20 x 9 so I measured and drew out my project area on the sheet of card stock.

These were the two caps that worked the best (wisk detergent cap and simply lemonade cap):

I am going for a "bubbles" look.

Circle Containers: Free
Paint: $1.00 plus some I already had
Card Stock: 39 cents
Ikea Ribba Frame: $9.99
Free time during T's nap: Priceless

$11.38 Spent

What We've Been Up To: July Edition

I can't believe it's the end of September and I'm just now blogging about July.  It's been a crazy and eventful summer and I'm sad to see it come to an end.  Here is a little of what we were up to in July:

4th of July in Salisbury - Watching the parade, crabs and beer with good friends, and  hanging with Grammy and Grandpa was lots of fun!

Doesn't the grass in this picture look amazing?  They own Collins Wharf Sod in Allen.

Watering everything including the garden

Lego Duplo Party - we had a great time hosting a play date for this event.  Tyler loves playing with the blocks.  He puts together each of the animals and then finds a way to stack them on top of each other like a totem pole.

Ballocity - this kids activity is located inside Pip Moyer Rec Center in Annapolis.  Tyler had a great time playing here.  The balls are small foam balls and can be shot out of guns using air pressure.

Community Pool Party -

A Rolly Pollies Birthday Party - Tyler loved this birthday party.  It was such a great time.

Video of Tyler zip lining for the first time:

Tyler's 2nd Birthday Party -

Visit to Solomons Island, MD - We traveled down to Solomons Island to visit with Tia Star and Tio Franny.  They put us up in their guest cottage next door.  This was our view when we woke up in the morning:

Amazing isn't it?  We had such a great time there.  It was so relaxing.  Tia Star took us for Tyler's first boat ride.

When we got to our destination he asked for "more boat ride". I think he liked it.

3 Generations of Penas

I just had to show these pictures of Tyler, his Daddy, and his Grampa.  All three of them are at the toddler age and the similarity is uncanny!

Tyler's Room: Big Updates for a Big Boy

I've been wanting to update Tyler's room since May (when he decided he was over the crib and crawling out was so much more fun).  I bought him a full size mattress and box spring to use with his crib (it converts to a full size headboard).  It's been sitting on the floor in case he falls out he wont hurt himself.  Also so he can get back in on his own because this Mama likes her sleep.  A lot.  :-)

Here is an inspiration board I put together of everything I have been considering doing in his room:

Source List:
Curtains, crib, dresser, chair, shark sheets: PotteryBarnKids
Striped duvet: West Elm
Sailboat picture and pillow: Etsy
World map: EBay
Paint: Behr
Here are a few pictures of Tyler's room when we first moved in:

The lovely light:

Here is some of the progress we've made:

We painted the walls,  hung his curtains, and added his furniture.
